The first video was of President Barack Obama explaining the how tourism impacts the United States. He explained that tourism is the number one service that the U.S. exports. People, domestic and foreign, travel around the U.S., stay in our hotels and eat at restaurants. This is good for local businesses and economies. America is “open for business”. Obama listed four specific ways to improve tourism in the United States. First he wants to have more Pre-TSA lines at all airports and pre clearance by homeland security in more countries other than the U.S. This eliminates the need for so many tourist visas. The Maasai Mara Reserve in Kenya is one of the most beautiful landscapes. Kenyans prize this land over many others. Over the past couple of decades litter has been a major issue and it has taken a great affect to the environment and to the animals living on the reserve. This has a negative environmental impact on tourism because it disturbs the animals and is an obvious eye sore to the area. This also makes it a major contribution to worldwide environmental problems. Kenyans are angry and surprised that this is happening to one of their most prized lands. They don’t like that the tourist come and leave all that trash everywhere. They are trying to change the norms to where tourists follow the rules and regulations that are already set. One step that they are taking is to regularly enforce the littering fine, but it all comes down to the tourists respecting the rules and regulations to ensure keeping the preserve beautiful for years to come. They can also educate themselves before visiting such areas. They can research the most recent problems that the area they are going to be visiting is having; problems such as, pollution, littering, and disturbances to the natural ecology of the land. All of these examples can contribute to the reduction of issues and give the destination or attraction more positive impacts. With the natural occurrences of the “unknown” by tourists or “I don’t care about the environment” mentality, there are many things that can be done to reverse this affect; one being the materials and information that is on websites.
