Do people care about the environment? Or do people only care about themselves? People are impacting the environment just like in Arlie Hochschild's text "Lee Sherman and the Toxic Louisiana Bayou" where Lee worked at a certain company and dumped chemicals into the bayou and it did not go well. Many people think that everything is changing but that is not always the case though. The unit text reinforces the idea that people have a bigger impact on the environment, however the people can also be impacted by what they are doing to the environment.

This is shown especially in the short article "Hey Come on Out'' by Shinchi Hoshi. The village was looking into the hole in the morning and noticed something in the sky: "The man, however, was gazing in idle reverie at the city's skyline growing ever more beautiful, and he failed to notice" (Hoshi 45). This suggests that the waste is going to fall on them. This quote shows that since the people of the village were dumping all the trash in this hole, they did not know about it; nature noticed that it was not right and knew something had to be done. This is explaining that people do things to destroy the environment. There are always the consequences that happen with everyone's actions. Just like in "Quiet Town" by Jason Gurley where a family does not take precautions about nature's warning so they have to pay the price. The mother (Bev) was standing outside her porch regretting her decision and said, "Suck a fool; We should've watched the TV, she thought absurdly"(Gurley 79-80). In other words, the family was impacted by the environment because they were so unfortunate they did not see the bigger picture with how dangerous nature could be.
