Imperialism And Things Fall Apart

207 Words1 Pages
Examples of imperialism can be found in many places; whether it be in an old history textbook, a classic movie, or a book, time and time again imperialism can be seen at the forefront. Two samples of writing from which one can find imperialism are Things Fall Apart and White Man’s Burden. In Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, the Igbo went about their respective ways, and practiced the then commonplace traditions. This all changed when the English missionaries came and spread Christianity all over Igboland (What is today part of Nigeria). Sharing a common theme is White Man’s Burden by Rudyard Kipling. In the poem, Kipling wrote about how white Europeans came to exploit the resources of the native Africans, and take the natives as slaves.
