The importance of being earnest was written by Oscar Wilde and was first performed around 1895 in London ("The Importance of Being Earnest."). Since then, there have been several adaptations of this piece in the form of several movies, musicals and radio versions. The first movie premiered in 1952. Since then two more versions, premiered one in 2002 and one in 2011. Several people argue that The Importance of Being Earnest uses a lot of satire, farce and comedy. I personally think that the book contained Farce more than comedy and Satire. We see this when Cecily and Gwendolyn start to think that they was proposed to by the same man. We also saw this at the end of the play when Jack begins to find out about his real identity. The movie was very different the director wrote and directed the play so it could be classified as more of a comedy then a farce.

After Cecily and Gwendolyn decided to forgive Jack and Algy, Miss Bracknell asked Miss Prim about a suspicious event that happened in her past. Miss. Prim was Cecily’s teacher. She helped her study forcing grammar. Miss Prim recalled that horrible event clearly. She said that he remembered that she took the baby out of the stroller, but since she was in such of a daze that she thought put the baby in the stroller when she really put the baby in a bag. The bag was eventually found at the same rail road station where Jack was found (Wilde). This immediately set off a light bulb in jack’s head. He showed that bag so Miss. Prim could see if that was the same bag that she left at the station. Miss. Prim did identify the bag. In the 2002 adaptation of the movie, Jack immediately ran to Miss. Prim and hugged her.
