Energy efficiency of building Among the biggest consumer of energy in countries with a high degree of urbanization and high standard of living are building. Building energy consumption mostly are from thermal and lighting loads especially office and hotel type building. Thermal and lighting load can be minimizing from architectural design and building dynamic behavior. Energy is mostly use for the cooling of building because of hot and humid tropical climate in Malaysia. A statistic show a building consume about 250kW/m2/year of energy of which about 64% is for air-conditioning, 24% for generate equipment and 12% for lighting. Due to the shortage of natural resources, energy costs are rising. Other than environmental impact, higher energy costs …show more content…

Daylighting optimize natural sunlight entry into a building to minimize the use of artificial lighting. Artificial lighting is produce by electricity. Energy efficient lighting is use of artificial light to receive the optimal level of light for the lowest energy investment. Glass dome UTHM mosque will be designed with a glass dome to maximize the penetration of daylight. In order to control the amount of light entering the prayer hall, and ensure optimum lighting level without glare, the dome will be equipped with automated blinds. It has about six different configurations that change depend on the position of the sun at particular time. It contributes to energy saving because it prevents heat from entering the prayer hall, at the same time it will save on electricity for lighting. Low e-glazing glass wall Low-emissivity glazing glass or low-e glazing glass is a type of energy- efficient glass. Low-e glazing glass is chosen because of its characteristic that will minimize the heat which is can absorb heat from the outside of the mosque. Indirectly, by using the glass wall, it will minimize the usage of electricity for lighting at daytime. Low e-glazing glass wall will reduce the amount of energy lost through the glass.
