“Friendship isn’t about who you’ve known the longest. It’s about who walked into your life, said “I’m here for you and proved it.” (Anonymous) These words perfectly describe the beginning of Liesel and Rudy's friendship. In The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, Rudy and Liesel, young teenagers, create an unbreakable bond that helps them find happiness during World War II in Nazi Germany. Rudy impacted the book by being Liesel's best friend and always being the heroic one. The readers begins to fall in love with Rudy, and then the author tells us he's going to die, and tells us that he get the kiss, but will never feel the power of the kiss that he has been thinking of since he first raced against Liesel, because he will be dead. I think that how the author portrayed foreshadowing through the book was smart because now we could understand the book more and prepare ourselves for when Rudy dies and other big tragedies that happen through the book. I believe that if Rudy and others didn’t die, than the book wouldn’t be as good. I think that, because no one ever gets a happy ending, and Liesel does, she doesn’t get Rudy, but she gets Max. Rudy and Liesel's bond never got weaker, it only got stronger. Even after Rudy died she never forgot about Rudy or what he had done for her. The friendship between Rudy and Liesel make me cherish the memories I have with my friends. Friendship is something that you can’t buy, but you can make one by being yourself. The Book Thief is a book everyone should read, so that we know never start a war against a religion or country because nothing ever good comes out of
