The way one portrays his or her self can very quite differently from person to person. Clothes, makeup and jewelry are all superficial ways one can depict one’s self. In contrast, one can portray him or herself on a deeper more intimate level. Establishing the way a person wants to be portrayed is like learning to walk, it takes small productive steps to gain the strength and knowledge to get to the desired destination. An individual’s identity is them, their age, their name, ethnicity and background, their family, also their language and education. Their self-esteem means how much they actually value themselves and lastly their self-image is how they view themselves or see themselves. If they have no identity, for example if they are afraid of how others might see them this links to a low self-esteem which can lead to social isolation and/or they might suffer from depression, then their self-image may then suffer such as they forget to look after their personal appearance, hygiene and how they used to dress. The observation has been conducted on Tuesday 18th of October, from 4:30 pm to approximately 7:30, while being at the hairdresser. After few minutes of observation, it could be noticed that there were a great number of employees (seven) - composed of two men and five women - for few clients (four). The objective of this observation was then to analyze how the tasks will be divided among the nine of them and what was everyone’s role in the saloon. Based on experience, in France, one hairdresser is in charge of one client and the “intern” washes your hear. By contrast, it was surprising to have the nine of them surrounding me, with up to four hairdressers taking care of my hair at the same time.
