Being that this is the 21st century, this world revolves around technology. Everyday people are on their smart device(s) texting, posting, watching videos on their social media account(s), searching the web, and so on. Though technology have a great impact on people, it has some negative aspects for individuals that use it. Unfortunately, the usage of technology equals to no privacy for individuals. We live in a world where people would like to believe that they can have privacy, but at this very moment in society there is no such thing as privacy. It is hard to say if people will fully earn or get privacy one day. In his essay “Visible Man: Ethics in a world without Secrets”, he goes into depth about how the improvement of technology is impacting our society and the government. According to Singer, “Technological breakthrough have made it easy to collect, store, and disseminate data on individuals, corporations, and even the government” (Singer 425). Singer sees the lack of privacy through Jeremy Bentham viewpoint of Panopticon, a building that is made like a prison to be able to observe people without them knowing. Instead of the Panopticon being a building, it is through technology. However, in a democracy both the citizens and the government would not like everything that they may do to be controlled and tracked, it is only right that both parties in some way need their privacy.
