Through the use of an ad hominem argument, Miller shows how attacks on a person’s image can ruin that person’s reputation, which negatively affects their life. When Danforth questions Proctor about his religion, Cheever states, “‘He plow on Sunday, sir’” which results in the distortion of Proctor’s image (90).
