The quote “No one is perfect” circulates around our societies during numerous instances and often times we overlook it. After carefully considering and understanding it, it is easy to realize how extremely accurate it is. As humans, we are all bound to make mistakes in our lives. Making mistakes of our own and fixing them is easy because we know our ways and we know what our “shoes” are, so to speak. In this case, shoes doesn’t mean footwear- it means the perspective of an individual. However, when someone else makes a mistake, it is hard to change our beliefs and forgive. Scout, being the narrator of the story, serves as the eyes and ears for the reader of To Kill A Mockingbird. Her point-of-view is very childish and she hasn’t seen enough of the world yet, at least according to Dolphus Raymond. A few troubling incidents regarding Miss Caroline and Scout instigated a rough relationship between the two of them at the beginning of the novel. First of all, Miss Caroline disliked of Scout’s ability to read and she had the idea that Atticus was the one teaching Scout deeply embedded in her mind. She clearly stated her disapproval in class by telling Scout, “Now you tell your father not to teach you any more. It’s best to begin reading with a fresh mind. You tell him I’ll take over from here and try to undo the damage-”. This deeply upset Scout because Atticus did not teach Scout and she actually taught herself. Following this incident, Miss Caroline expressed her lack of knowledge regarding the different families in Maycomb. She did not know of the Cunningham’s economic struggles, nor the Ewells lack of education, which was discussed the following day. Scout tried to explain to her both times.
