Important Cohort Influences As a member of the Generation X (more commonly referred as Gen X) cohort, there are a number of influences such as higher educational levels, new health care laws, and diversity in society’s views will impact the aging process for this group. Tremendously different from previous generation, the highly educated cohort has the means, access and desire to attain top quality health care as they advance within the aging process. According to the U.S. Department of Education, Gen X has the highest level of education out of all previous generations. The higher education, results in higher income; therefore, allowing various lifestyle choices (Isaksen, 2002). Examples of lifestyle choices include, the purchasing of organic foods, the incorporation of leisure activities, or opting for cosmetic produces to age gracefully within the aging process. Those who may not have had access to medical care can benefit from government mandated medical insurance. Most importantly, both laws gives additional access to medical rights. In turn, the aging process can be extended or ended from the formation and passing of these laws. I believe both laws allow Gen Xers access to medical coverage and the right to end medical treatment, if a medical measures are exhausted, for the greater good. As more societies become diverse, new views of aging gracefully are incorporated into new standards of the society. A good example is Hillary Clinton, a 68 year old grandmother who is pursuing her dream of becoming president of the U. S. in a time when most 65 year olds are preparing for retiring.
