Impressionism was an art method during the late 1800’s and was universally known for its use of color to show how important light is in the world. The time period that impressionism was painted was small, only about 20 years. It started in the 1860’s and ended in the 1880’s. Some of the world's most well-known painters lived during this era of art. Vincent Van Gogh was one of the most famous painters who painted in that era, even if his paintings became famous only after his death. Most of the artists that painted impressionist paintings suffered financially. Impressionism was a way of painting to get people to see really how much light has to do with beauty in a landscape. The movement made painters see the world in more pure of a light and fresh. When impressionism was started it could have been influenced by many things, the 1860’s in Europe was just going uphill for everything. There was a lot going on in the world at the time but, in reality nothing really influenced the start of impressionism. In America there was the start of the abolishment of slavery, and in Europe many revolutions were taking place. The impressionists wanted to show a certain time of day when they painted, instead of using ordinary colors the big brush strokes and vibrant colors really showed how light affected a landscape. Depending on the time of day the artists had to work quickly in order to capture the same scene. This did not allow them to make a perfect outline, that is why the impressionist paintings look blurry or smeared. They sacrificed a lot of the detail in the painting by doing the painting in the given time. This style grew to be one of the most famous and loved art movement
