May it please the court, your honor, and members of the jury, it’s terribly difficult to go through life without making any mistakes. I’ve made mistakes, you’ve made mistakes, and I’m sure that the people that you know also have made mistakes and we are not made to pay for does mistakes over and over again. That’s why we are here today, Emily Grierson stands accused of first degree murder in the death of Homer Barron. Miss Grierson lost her mother at a young age, and is raised by her overbearing father. Her father was a very strict men and domineering, she was isolated from everything. As years pass by no proper men would want to marry her and even if someone did, Miss Emily was in a unhealthy relationship with her father and that has taken over her life. When the only men in her life which was her father dies Miss Emily loses her awareness of reality and becomes mentally unstable. Your honor probably have heard about how Miss Emily won’t let anyone dispose her father's remains. Imagine if you will, a woman that never had a chance at life since her mother died, and all of a sudden her father also dies. The man that she always wanted and waited for years and years. Even the people in our town witnessed them together for so long they thought they were going to get married, later on he tells everyone that he is into man. Again your Honor will you imagine, the lady that was stopped from going out for 30 years and when she finally started living her life normally the man she loved turned out to be gay. The unnatural feelings she had for her father, are now projected by this man. She hears whispers from the townspeople that he will leave her, just like her father did.
