When players/users of a game share their gameplay with others they become social games (Tuten & Solomon, 2013). Social games include leaderboards, achievement badges, and usually a friend list (Tuten & Solomon, 2013). Brands are starting to promote their message in existing game property (Tuten & Solomon, 2013). More than 56 million Americans play social games on a regular basis that creates a huge audience for brands to advertise their name or products to (Rampell, 2010). In 2010, social games were the second most popular activity on the web (Rampell, 2010). Although, I do not necessary consider myself a “gamer”, I have played a some social games in the past, but my nephew has games on my phone that have in-game advertising. I think that many times there is a lot of in-game advertising that we may not even realize at the time. When looking at some of the EA sports games that my nephew as downloaded on my phone I paid more attention to the ads, that I would otherwise. I was able to see ads from Gatorade, Under Armour, and vehicle brands. There are three types of in-game advertising: display, static, and dynamic ads (Tuten & Solomon, 2013). EA seems to use a lot of display ads, which are integrated into the scoreboards, and billboards that they have in the game. EA uses a lot of screen placements in the games for advertising for brands. Screen placement is a form of product placement that allow brands to visible in a scene (Tuten & Solomon, 2013). In some of the athletes you could see them wear Under Armour cleats, or drinking out of Gatorade water bottle, or Nike
