Frankenstein In Gris Grimly’s Frankenstein, the theme of incarceration is apparent throughout the whole story. Each character struggles with their own version of incarceration, whether it be literally, mentally or physically. This reoccurring theme conveys that the creature wasn’t the only “inmate” in the story. Victor Frankenstein was arguably the first prisoner of the book. He became obsessed with the creation of his creature, and obsession is a type of imprisonment. He wasn’t able to eat, sleep, or exercise normally due to his obsession. He even started to refer to his workshop as a “cell”, “In a solitary chamber, or rather cell….I kept my workshop of filthy creation”(38). Once the creation was complete and the creature was born, he
