Introduction
Incarceration refers to the process of imprisoning and constricting an individual. In other words, it means jailing or confining somebody to restrict their movement and communication with the outside world. People may be locked up or detained behind bars for various reasons more so those that are contrary to the American constitution. Incarceration would therefore involve the denial of one 's rights and freedom without his or her consent.
"Throughout the last 40 years, the American imprisonment rate has increased from a fairly stable rate of about 100 prisoners per 100,000 members of the population in the early 1970s to about 500 per 100,000 now".
