As part of The Container Store’s team, I would assist the CEO Kip Tindell in making some changes in job design to increase employee satisfaction by incorporating flexible scheduling strategies and job enrichment to achieve his goal. Managers have several strategies they can utilize to design jobs to help improve employee motivation. Furthermore, a flexible schedule provides many benefits, including improving the ability to recruit and retain employees who need to balance their work and home life. In relation to flextime are scheduling strategies that consist of a compressed workweek, which is a four-day schedule in which the employee receives their forty hours in a shorter period. Moreover, a compressed workweek would reduce The Container Stores operating expenses because the actual hours are reduced. Compressed workweeks also benefit the employees by giving them more days off to spend with their families. Job Sharing is another option, where two people do one job by alternating their schedules. Job sharing gives both employees to take care of other obligations, such as school or parenting.
