Holeman, Jerry, D. CJ4280 270 Q-8 The Indiana State Police is looked to as a leader throughout the state by federal, county and local police agencies. Especially in our investigations of criminal, traffic events and all other major incidents. We require that the quality of these investigations will be held to an extremely high level of accuracy and thoroughness. However, there is always room for improvement which is why we conduct peer reviews of all major investigations. The primary purpose will be to ensure a complete investigative product and also to ensure the final product is of the highest quality. This process may include identification of areas in need of additional follow-up, and shall normally be completed prior to the release of the investigative product to the Prosecutor or any outside agency. The first line supervisor will ensure any additional follow-ups identified during the peer review are completed in a timely, thorough, and accurate manner. To manage and track the peer reviews we have a spread sheet on our ISPMYSHARE page to sign up for the appropriate level of review. After the sign up is completed in ISPMYSHARE all involved officers will receive an e-mail with the time and location of the peer review. Although this is not a policy at this time it is a directive from our Superintendent. This directive came out about a year ago and is fairly new to most of the state. However, Area One has been utilizing a version of this for quite some time. The State of Indiana is broken up into five areas of command. I am in Area One which consist of three posts. Those Posts are Lowell, Peru, and my Post Lafayette. This area makes up the corner of the northwestern part of our state. Our Area Captain had implemented the peer review to our area about four years ago. He reached out to all of the District Investigative Commanders in Area one and we brain stormed for several months before we came up with the before mention peer review system.
