Everyone is dealt cards in the game of life, nobody's cards will be the same. The important thing is that you don't lose yourself dealing with the dealt cards. No matter what you have to go through, you can't forget who you are. There are many ways that a person can achieve and maintain individualism within a society. The way that you can make others see you is the way that they will.
The action that a person makes is going to give them a reputation and view of themself for everyone to see. The saying, actions speak louder than words, is a powerful statement. The only way is to give people a reason to think of you differently than others. In the text, The cask of Amontiliado, Montesor demonstrates this. He feels a certain way about Fortunato so he does something about it. He kills him. He could have easily never talked to Fortunato again or had a conversation about it, but he decided to go all in with it. This really shows how he accomplished individuality because he did what he thought was right with no second thoughts. The cask of Amontillado relates to the text, Self reliance, by Ralph Waldo Emerson, because it talks a lot about the importance of self reliance and it was really important to Menesor, regardless if other people knew what he had done or not.
