Individuality Is Not a Sin Equality 7-2521 thought individuality was a sin, but later on knew it was not a sin. This is correct; not everything people do affects others in a way. In the book Anthem, by Ayn Rand, in a story where everyone is the same and no one is allowed to be different, there was one person named Equality 7-2521 who dared to be different. Equality discovered that is is okay to be an individual. Equality knows that individuality is wrong and it affects everyone: “It is a sin to write this” (17). Everything you do affects everyone around you. For example, you live with your family and you decide to drop out of school and stay home and do nothing, than your parent get tired and will not have a choice but to kick you out.That's how they are living and is wrong to do thing on your own, the consoles just want to protect everyone by not having problem later on the story. “We shall be forgiven for anything we say tonight.” He later knew that doing thing for himself wasn't going to harm everyone else. For example he can choose what he rather eat and it wouldn't affect anyone else. Choosing the food he rather eat did not now affect his partner at all he can make other simple decision and his partner not get affected. LIke in the story he choose to move away it didn't affect anyone but himself because he is the one moving to a different place not knowing what going to happen. He later knew that they can survive being an individual, and later left the colony and found himself with the golden one in a house in the city. They found out that they didn't need to be happy being the same person and not be individual, also he knew that being an individual was correct.
