The Industrial Revolution, from 1760 to 1851, changed the relationship between humans and the environment, as increased production and emerging technologies necessitated the use of new, and often harmful, energy sources. For the first time, humans affected their environment as much as the environment had affected them. Humans have had an effect on the environment since before the dawn of agriculture.
