In the story Grapes of Wrath the author , John Steinbeck, includes the tale of a desert turtle crossing the street as a form of foreshadowing to the journey of the Joad family to California. I believe students from low-income communities face a huge challenge that results from inequalities in wealth distribution. It is sad to see that to the world our country is presented at "the land of the opportunities," but in reality, there is little chance for poor people to enjoy of those "scarce opportunities. " There are many ways in which the academic potential of a student living in these communities can be affected. For instance, a high school student who was exposed to math textbooks in his childhood because his or her community lacks of government resources, may face many difficulties and low performance in this subject.
Karl Marx who was an economist, during 19th century established an idea between wealthy and rich. According to “Three Great Economists”, Karl Marx believes that “the class struggle itself, expressed as the contest over wages and profits, would be the main force for changing capitalism and eventually undoing it” (33). Here Marx shows that there will always be difference between classes in capitalism and the only technique can be use to change this concept is to ruin a capitalism. This shows that income inequality is something we cannot fight with in capitalism, because no matter what we do we always will have this problem. People will always want more, and some will achieve it and other won’t.
Some people would argue that the inequality gap of the rich and the poor do not affect our democracy, while others would say the opposite. Either way, there is a huge wealth gap between the rich and the poor in the United States today. While this gap between the classes expands, citizens are discussing whether something should be done, or should be left alone. On one side of the spectrum, people believe that great inequality is incompatible with our democracy.
