Inequality “Until you treat everyone as an equal, you have no right to complain about the way that they are treating you.” The theme of inequality in to kill a mockingbird is shown through the characters of Tom Robinson, The Ewell family, and Dolphus Raymond. Tom Robinson Tom was a good man and he always helped everyone that was in need of it, so when the daughter of Mr. Ewell asked him for help. He had to walk past her house everyday and each time there were new tasks for him that needed to be done. Then one night he was walking past their house like usual and instead of doing some work outside, she had him come inside and so he did. When he got inside she asked him take some jar off the top of a shelf, so he got on a chair and when he did, she went up to him hugged his legs and told him, “Kiss me back, nigger.” …show more content…
He tried to get away but she was blocking the exit. Mr. Ewell heard all of the commotion inside the house and yelled, “You whore, I’ll kill ya”. When Tom heard that he got scared and ran outta that house so fast it seemed like he was running from a cheetah. Tom was accused for raping Mr. Ewell's daughter, so when they went to court atticus was his lawyer, and after he heard what had happened he believed he needed to defend Tom. Atticus did his best to keep him outta jail and the jury seemed to buy it a little but they ended up saying he was guilty. He went to jail because he was black and was not treated equal by white
