The Fab Five Marks on Basketball In 1891 Dr James Naismith created the greatest game on the planet basketball. Exactlly 100 years later five freshman basketball players from Michigan University gave basketball a new meaning and style that is still in effect today. These five players are Chris Webber, Juwan Howard, Jalen Rose, Ray Jackson and Jimmy King. Those five men added more than their talent to the game they brought their style and swagger. They got death threats because they might have played more aggressively. The death threats didn’t faze them if anything they used as momentum to beat the team the death threats came from. The black socks got everyone talking about them. Those socks are still around today all the college teams wear them to most people those are just socks, but they have a meaning to them a strong meaning. Before the fab five came around all the men’s basketball programs wore the thigh high shorts. But one day at a Michigan practice the fab five went up to Steve Fisher their head coach and asked if they could wear baggy shorts. Steve said if you can win in those you can have them. Those shorts with them were a lot more comfortable to play in. After they started wearing them other programs started to go to those. They would always try to get under the opponents skin and they might even try to injure them if they were heated rivals. They eve trash talked back to each other. If someone was not doing their job they would get in their face and tell them how they felt. The fab five took trash talking to a new level they took it personal. That’s like today game your trying to get under your opponent skin that is all because of the fab five. Basketball would not be the same if the fab five would not have change the way it was played. They definitely left there marks on basketball history for good and bad things. It is so terrible that they were not able to win a NCAA championship in there two years but they were able to make it to the grandest stage of all the NBA. I could not see how basketball would be if the fab five would have not done so much to change
