But while we were walking down the dirt road to our next fishing hole I slipped. I almost fell off a rocky hill but my dad caught me. He was my hero that day, and he always has been. That day he may have saved me from breaking a few of my bones, and maybe even death. I love my dad so much.

After a pilgrimage to the holy land Malcolm X changed his name and became known by his Islamic name Malik El-Shabazz, and became a nonviolent activist who created organizations to better the black communities. Malcolm Little was born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1925, to parents Louise and Earl Little. Malcolm’s

I’m extremely grateful that my dad adopted me and gave me a better life! Yet, I can’t help feel like I’ve missed out on a relationship between my biological parents. Up until 9, I was extremely close to my biological father, most of my time my mom was always working, inevitably I was closer to my biological father than my mom. When I came to America, my adopted dad was a workaholic like my mother. I only got to spend time with him on Sundays.
If it was not for him; I probably would not have come out of my shell. My grandfather taught me the importance of family. According to Broderick, & Blewitt (2015) Non-normative events are events in life that are not expected and are specific to the individual. Therefore, I would consider growing up and witnessing the abuse within my home between my mother and father as a non-normative event because not everyone is a victim of abuse. Growing up and witnessing the abusive situation between my mother and father shaped my identity because young children do not have the necessary coping skills and are completely dependent on their mother and father for both physical and emotional protection. (De Young, Kenardy, Cobham, 2011).Traumatic events can be uniquely distressing for young children and place them at even greater risk of adverse psychological outcomes (De Young,
On one hand, prior research shows that single-mother families are characterized by erratic discipline and less supervision (Demuth, 65). Teenage mothers are more likely to become a single parent as well because teenage fathers are less likely to stick around. They also obtain less education and live in poverty. Further, the children of these teenage mothers were more likely to (1) be born prematurely and be of low birth weight (which increases the likelihood that they will develop traits like irritability and low self-control); (2) be physically abused, neglected, or abandoned; (3) be poorly supervised; (4) have trouble in school; and (5) become teenage mothers themselves (Agnew 257). All these traits lead up to delinquency but the father can contribute as well.

Growing up without my father was hard, especially because my mom was only there to feed, clothe and raise 5 kids including me. At 7 years old my father got 9 years in prison. I still remember the day as if it was yesterday. Approximately at 7 p.m., I saw a lot of police officers outside my house, I thought what is happening! Occasionally I kept peeking out the window to see what was happening.
