Imperialism is a domination by one country of the political, economic or cultural life of another country. The first imperialism was in 19th Century. Imperialism grew up during a time period around 1700, and it was mainly practiced by the industrializing nations, and the countries which had strong political power. There are two types of imperialism, one is formal imperialism and the other is informal imperialism. Formal imperialism means that one country establishes direct political control over a region, and is known as a colony. For example, the control of British over the colonies in America in 18th Century is called formal imperialism. The countries such as Algeria, India, and Korea were controlled and colonized by the other country and decolonized in 20th Century. Firstly, Algeria was colonized by France in 1830, and decolonized in 1962. Algeria gained its independence after the Algerian War which lasted over 8 years. In addition, the group called FLN(National Liberian Front) had contributed to Algerian independence by engaging on national movement during the war. Secondly, India was on control by British between 1858 and 1947. India gained its independence by the following reasons: the rise of Indian Independence Movement, the impact of Mahatma Gandhi, and the rise of Muslim League. Among those three factors, the rise of Indian Independence Movement had the most impact on the independence. The movement included, the rebellion, forming of organizations, and rise of Indian Nationalism. Thirdly, Korea was colonized by Imperial Japan in 1910, and decolonized in 1945. There are three main factors that impacted on the decolonization of Korea: Korean Independence Movement, support of other nations ,and fall of Imperial Japan. The most significant factor was the fall of Imperial Japan. In 1945, Japan was on war against the United States, and the usage of atomic bombs by the United States resulted the end of World War II and fall of Imperial …show more content…

In general, after decolonization, the new nations struggled with their economic development and reconstruction. Firstly, France exploited abundant oil and gas that were in Algeria. In addition, the atrocities that were caused during French-Algerian war is still known as tragic incident. About 400,000 people were killed during the war. Secondly, British also harmed India in many different ways during its imperialism era. British over-exploited the resources in India such as agricultural goods and natural resources. In addition, British weakened Indian culture and impoverished the Indian empire. Before the British colonized India, India was one of the richest countries in the world. However, after the British left India, India became poor and inferior to the other countries. Lastly, Colonization of Korea under imperial Japan left a significant negative impact and committed several atrocities on Korea. During over 30 years of Japanese colonization, the Korean citizens experienced much hardship and struggle. For example, when Japan entered the World War II, they forced Koreans to be the laborers and soldiers for the war. Furthermore, the Korean women also became victims. For instance, Japan recruited Korean women for sexual slavery and made them to be prostitutes for the Japanese
