Soldiers/ Veterans often return home still bloodthirsty for fighting.

This is true in The Odyssey, and Odysseus In America
When soldiers come back from war, they often remain in combat mode
The Odyssey proves that soldiers remain in combat mode even after the war is over.
In The Odyssey, Odysseus is away from home for 20 years, and is constantly fighting away the monsters and goddesses that try to woo him. Odysseus is treated terribly when he returns home. Once he proves himself, the suitors beg for peace, Odysseus slaughters them all.
When returning from war you may not find things as you’ve left them.

When he sees Argus a tear grows in his eyes and he says that Argus would’ve been a fine dog.
Returning from war sometimes leaves soldiers in combat mode.

Odysseus is given the option of peace and he chooses fighting because the suitors stole his honor. Odysseus chooses fighting over over peace proves when veterans return from war they remain in combat mode.
The Odyssey shows how soldiers are treated when they return home, and how they react, just like in Jonathon Shay’s Odysseus In America with the story of Bear.
Odysseus In America is about veterans and how they reacted to the real world after returning from war.
The veterans in this article went through life changing events at war that caused them to suffer from PTSD. This article showed how veterans remain in ‘combat mode’.
