Fishing is one of the world’s biggest hobbies; there are over 33.1 million people that enjoy this hobby or do it as a competitive sport. Fishing has become a huge hobbie and sport people love to compete in. Every aspect of fishing has grown so much since the start of it. The rods, reel, tackle, and even the boats we use to fish have become extraordinary better than what it started out as. The beginning of fishing, who invented fishing and when? Who was the first person or people to start fishing? Cave people or early Homo sapiens were the first people to eat and try to catch fish. The first ever people to actually “fish” were Egyptians, and then the Greeks and Romans, they had more advanced equipment (Carr, 2015). Deep sea fishing has been …show more content…
in chinese paintings. Not until the 1800’s the fishing reel was used to store excess line, in the 1820’s an actual fishing reel was invented called snyders reel, which was a closed faced-reel/ bait casting reel. kind of like a fly reel (Anderson, n.d.). The first model of the spinning reel had a smaller diameter and the gear that run the spool and mechanisms were made of brass which isn’t a very strong metal and they wore very fast making the reel unable to use. Silk line with the baitcaster made the casting distance which made the fisherman need more fishing line on their reels, but after the put more line on their reels there became more tangles and they had to make a modification called the regulator which made the line come on and off the reel evenly and smoothly (History of Fishing Reel, n.d.). In 1948 Mitchell Reel Company of Cluses introduced the first modern spinning reel that was commercially successful called the Mitchell 300. The first anti reverse lever was created to make the crank handle from going in reverse while fighting a fish. The open faced reel prevented backlash, unlike the baitcasters, but was still able to get the line stuck under the spool or when you opened the bail line would fall off in big loops creating tangles (Fishing reel, n.d.). While fishing tackle has gotten very advanced to todays date, the way fisherman get around on the lake has gotten a lot easier to move spots and travel further up and down rivers and get across lakes faster then having to row across an entire lake while there are white caps on the
