Have you ever been afraid to go to the grocery store alone? Have you ever felt like you were being watched, or someone was following you? There’s a reason why, there are women and children being robbed of their freedom everyday. In simple places like your local grocery store or movie theatre there could be someone waiting to take you from your normal life and sell you into slavery. Because of expanding gang activity and devastated families we should enforce more ways to identify the people involved in human trafficking.

Human traffickers typically work in gangs and seek out easy targets, like this vietnamese women. “The girl reached Dubai on a visit visa to meet her friend and fell into the trap of the gang, who pressured her to wok in flesh trade. Upon refusal, she was beaten up and kept locked in an apartment for five days” (Agarib). On what should have been a simple trip to visit a friend this woman's life was changed forever. The trafficking gangs won't take no for an answer with their victims, they will use force to get what they want. When working in a gang it makes it easy to set up a larger business. Later, the woman was brought back to the gangs apartment when she met others like her, “she saw more compatriots in the flat who told her she would have to work in prostitution” (Agarib). Since they were putting their resources together the gang was able to run a brothel.. Multiple women were kept hostage and forced to have sex with anyone they were told, or else the would be punished. However, not every gang is built to last, after some time in the trade the girl was able to find a way out. “The gang dropped the girl off at the airport at night after earning she had contacted her mother. The police raided the flat of the gang and arrested the five suspects” (Agarib). Most people in slave trade don't get out like this girl did. In some cases, the victim can think they are in a happy relationship before it all goes downhill. “A San Rafael man was sentenced to 4 years in prison for pimping and having sex with a 15 year old from Sacramento. When the detectives overheard the female talking on her phone to arrange a secual hookup for mone the concluded Hall was acting as her pimp” (Klien). This young girl thought she was just living the typical teen life with her new boyfriend.. However, it just turned out to be a slimy conman who wanted to make a buck off of his “girlfriend” Any family affected by this kind of situation would want justice like this family did. The man was quickly busted by the cops and the family pressed charges. “At the sentencing hearing, Deputy District Attorney Nicole Pantaleo sad human trafficking has a devastating effect on the victims” (Klien). Nicole Pantaleo was not wrong. As an impressionable teen this kind of trauma will affect her forever. She will never be the same because of a selfish and heartless person that lied to her and used her. These cases can change the dynamic of the victim and their family for a long time. “Pantaleo said, ‘This type of case is very serious, he needs to find some other way to make his money” (Klien).
