I sit in class zoned out thinking to myself how I would do in powerlifting. That isn’t a sport you would normally think of when it comes to female activities. Every other sport seems to come easy, why not give this a shot? Going out of my comfort zone and trying something I’ve never done before. My experience with powerlifting has been an intense and test to physical strength. Going to practice not having a clue about rules or the proper form I was determined that my first practice would not be my last. Learning the concept and getting the idea made me even more excited to start my new journey and make endless memories. Weigh in, perfect form, lights, judges, suits, and awards are the six main focuses in powerlifting. Weight classes can be difficult, you want to be at the top of your class so you can outdo the opponents who weigh less. Your coach calls you down for you reps if you don’t listen to your coach and do your own thing that lift won’t count. There are three lights that determine if you get to do another rep. If you get two red lights the weight you just lifted does not count. If you get two or more green lights you get to move forward. The judge also calls your lift if you come up or go down for you rep before they call it you get three red lights. Suits are probably the worst thing about powerlifting. My first meet I set three personal records that I want to triple by my last meet. You could say I am by far not a morning person what so ever, but I got extremely into powerlifting I was up by 5a.m pumped and ready to go 20 minutes before practice even started. I busted my tail and gave it 110% every day. I have an intent target to reach and I’m not resting until I’m satisfied. Powerlifting meets have allowed me to see that hard work truly pays
