Thanksgiving is a very special holiday for people all over America. It all started back in 1620 when Pilgrims came over on a small little ship called the Mayflower. It was a 66-day trip and they sailed all the way to Cape Cod. The Indians welcomed them with open arms, but as time went on, most of the Pilgrims began to die during the cold winter. So the Indians helped them learn how to fish, eat berries that are not poisonous, and fertilize corn and other crops. Once November 1621 rolled around, the Pilgrims learned how to accomplish all of these tasks, and they decided they would have a big feast with the Indians to celebrate and show their thanks. That was the first Thanksgiving. It’s 2017 now and Thanksgiving Day isn’t much different from the first one. Loved ones come together to celebrate and give thanks and enjoy a delicious meal with a variety of different foods. Everyone celebrates the holiday in his or her own special way. Over the years, my Thanksgiving had different outcomes but they were all amazing. For many years, my mom would cook Thanksgiving dinner for my dad’s side of the family. I really felt like I was missing out on something special every year because we never went. All of the cousins grew up with each other, spending most days together and weekends in the summer at my lake house. The reason why we were going there was that my cousin Anthony got married back in September and just moved to Indiana, so my Aunt Peg and Aunt Linda flew out there for Thanksgiving. It felt so weird not celebrating Thanksgiving at my house. All I could think about was how much different it would be with my mom’s side, and I couldn’t be more
