They may repeat statements and questions over and over, not realizing they are repeating themselves. They could forget whole conversations, events, and locations, at times not even remembering where they are. Also, people with Alzheimer's Disease often lose things, putting them in a different place they would have normally. It’s very likely that they may forget the names of family or friends. Some my have problems performing certain tasks or have difficulty speaking or writing. At age 49, Julie Gregory went in for a doctor's appointment, thinking something was wrong with her blood pressure. Instead she learned she had a time bomb hidden in her DNA: two copies of a gene variant, ApoE4, that is strongly linked to Alzheimer’s. “Alzheimer’s was the furthest thing from my mind,” Ms. Gregory said “I never thought I was at risk. When I saw my results, I was terrified.”(Opinion). Later, her father who was a neurologist,retired in his early 60’s and was diagnosed with dementia. Ms. Gregory wanted to be with other people with the same problems she was having. In 2013, she and others created a website where the community could gather. Today, the group has more than 2,000 members. They pour over medical journals, reach out to top researchers in the field and share notes about their experiments with diet, exercise and other lifestyle modifications.(Pagan Kennedy) Alzheimer’s Disease is very common in the United States with 5.5 million people living with dementia in 2017. It’s a slow moving disease that is heartbreaking for those around the person who has it. One literally forgets all they know around them and eventually all those they love.
