Reasons for choice of topic:
I have chosen to talk about Amelia Earhart because she has been a big inspiration to many women, back then but also today, and she was an instrumental supporter of the Equal Rights Amendment.
I think it’s so impressive all that she has achieved, so I wanted to learn more about her and her story.

Who was she?
Amelia Earhart is one of the most famous American pilots who set many flying records and championed the advancement of women in aviation. She was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean and the first person ever to fly solo from Hawaii to the U.S. mainland.

Earhart refused to be boxed in by her gender from a young age. She was born in Kansas in 1897, where she played basketball growing up, took auto repair courses, and briefly attended college. In 1920, Earhart began flying lessons and quickly became determined to receive her pilot's license, passing her flight test in December 1921. Later that year, she bought her first plane, a yellow Kinner Airster, which she named ‘The Canary.’ …show more content…

There weren't many other female pilots back then, so what Amelia Earhart achieved inspired many other women to follow their dreams.
In 1929, Earhart helped form The Ninety-Nines, an international nonprofit organization whose mission was to advance women in aviation. Launched by 99 women pilots at the time, The Ninety-Nines continues to inspire the new generation of women pilots through education, scholarships, mentoring, and general support linked by a passion for flight.

Through her support of the Equal Rights Amendment, her encouragement of women pilots, her style and fashion sense, her career at Purdue University, and many other accomplishments, Amelia Earhart left a significant mark in the fight for women's equality.
