Breast cancer the spoiled child November 11th, 2014 was a date I will never forget. This was the start of my new life. I was diagnosed with Germinoma, a rare form of brain cancer that only forms when a child starts puberty. However, back then I obiblious to brain cancer. In fact I knew nothing about any other type of cancer besides breast cancer. Although the fight to end cancer is always broadcasted or shown through commercials, ads, or public service announcements, the most deadly cancers out there are often left in the dark.This is because the most over publicized cancer in America is breast cancer and the other cancers out there deserve to be supported as well. The most seen commercials, ads, or public awareness campaigns all raise money for breast cancer. Due to this the funds for breast cancer “In just one year of funding — 2007 — the National Cancer Institute (NCI) spent $572.4 million on breast cancer research. That same year, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) spent an additional $705 million” (cancer industry), yet the deadliest receive little to nothing.The amount of money spent on a death caused by breast cancer is eleven thousand dollars while the amount spent on a death caused by lung cancer is only eleven hundred dollars. While lung cancer kills more than double the amount of people killed by breast cancer it receives poor funding since it is outshined by the publicity of breast cancer.By over publizing this specific cancer compared to the other cancers the government also tends to fund breast cancer research more than the other types further pushing back the progress in those other fights to find a …show more content…

In fact brain cancer is the ‘deadliest cancer in children and more than twenty-eight thousand children are diagnosed in America’ each year.Unlike breast cancer which is publicized to be a long term disease, brain cancer is a more critical one which causes health problems and body problems which can not be fixed due to the destroyed tissues being located in the brain. For example after completing my treatment for cancer I was left with several other health problems I will have to live with for the rest of my life. I now have diabetes insipidus, hypothyroidism, and a chemical imbalance in my hormones. All of which there is no cure for. Not only does the lack of treatments available affect the patients but also the treatments lifelong effects stay with them forever. It is not as easy to fix brain related
