Did you know that nearly 0.41 concussions occur per NFL game? All of these occur from contact, hence calling the game a contact sport or even a collision sport. Contact sports can be extremely dangerous, not only for kids but for all ages. According to the CDC, around 1.6 to 1.8 million sports-related concussions occur each year, with about 1.1 million concussions taking place in children below the age of 18. Contact sports are worth the risk of injury, though, due to the fact that these sports teach valuable character traits and impact school performance.
To start off, contact sports allow kids to be active, but also teach kids valuable character traits that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. Contact sports teach discipline, fitness habits, and valuable character traits that will help them succeed when they are older. Also, contact sports give reasons to kids to not only go to school but finish school. These kids want to finish high school and college so they can keep moving on with their sports careers. However, people might argue that CTE, a degenerative brain disease, can start at any point. However, the chances of brain injuries are extremely low at the youth level, and a bit higher at the high school level. If you are fortunate to be in the 1% of the world that plays professional football, only 2.4% of those who receive a concussion end up hospitalized. So if these minute chances scare a parent to the point where they won't allow their kid to obtain these beneficial habits, skills, and higher chances of graduating, then I can't stop you.
