The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver shows the women of the Congo as being the workers of the family. They take care of the children, going so far as to carry them around constantly once they reach a certain age, and they are responsible for all the housework. The females are seen as capable and have many responsibilities. In spite of this, the reality for the real women of the Congo is that they are in constant fear of being a victim of sexual violence. Sexual violence can happen anywhere, but in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) it occurs on a daily basis (Ganzamungu and Maharaj 737).
I think that the most significant weakness is that the NIBRS is one of the more detailed databases in the fact that it tracks for useful information like offenders with multiple offenses or multiple victims, however it is highly under reported. NIBRS was designed to improve the weakness that occur within the UCR, nevertheless if nobody is reporting to the database it cannot improve. According to Terry (2013), “Currently, police departments representing only 17 percent of the population submit data to NIBRS” (pg. 11). That is a huge weakness that only 17% report to NIBRS.
A book that I recently read that showed a reflection of my self-understanding was Missoula by Jon Krakauer because it extended my perspective on women’s safety on college campuses. The book Missoula shares stories of five women who were sexually assaulted at the University of Montana, Missoula and follows their cases all the way to trial. As a girl who has always been told that a college education is necessary to succeed in life, the idea that colleges arent safe for me felt like a secret that I wasnt allowed to know until I experienced it for myself. Reading the statistics and seeing how all of the rapists walked away unpunished strengthened my understanding of the fact that sexual assault is a normal occurance on college campuses.
8. Rape has been a serious issue for centuries. But we hardly hear of cases about rape that occurred in the military that’s usually because the victims are too afraid to speak up against their superior officers. 9. I want to persuade my audience that rape is a serious issue in the military and it needs to be dealt with in a different way because the current system isn’t effective.
When questioned about rape, especially most women, they might think or even picture a stranger coming out of a dark place to assault someone. But in reality there’s more to it. According to the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, “About half of all people who are raped know the person who attacked them. This is known as date rape — forced sex that can happen not only on a date, but also somewhere like a party with someone the victim may know, like, or even be interested in.” Furthermore, social critic and feminist, Camille Paglia, has been discussing this persisting issue about date rape with a personal stance that many women may disagree with.
Starting college is already a very scary time for most students, and I want to make the fear of rape
They say I am a witch. I say that I am witch and that I worked with the devil while under the parris household. I never thought I was with the devil. When I used to flap my arms and mumble under my breath I was merely just talking to myself and doing good deeds. I was not a witch, but I was.
In society and college campuses, sexual assault occurs quite frequently. According to an estimation one third of women experience a forced sexual experience at least once in their life and most of the time it occurs in colleges. Men have also been reported to be victim of sexual assaults mostly by other men. Most of the time the sexual assault is planned and perpetrated by a third person, who is known to the victim of incident. Drug and alcohol use play role in this issue and contribute to the problem as most of the time the victim and perpetrators are under the effect of alcohol or any other drug during the incident.
Rape is something that many warn us about and tell us to be careful about. What many do not realize is that it can happen in a matter of seconds and there is nothing that can be done to stop it. Often it happens, but people find it difficult to report it because of the person who committed the crime, this was the case in the book Missoula by Jon Krakauer. The book begins with a woman, Allison Huguet, who was raped by a member of the football team in the University of Montana, Beau Donaldson. This case was not the first incident to happen in this city and the author does a great job in letting his readers be aware and know it has happened before.
1 out of every 6 women have been the victim of either attempted or completed rape(pause). 14.8% completed rape, 2.8% attempted rape, 15% of sexual assault and rape victims are under the age of 12(pause), 44% are under the age of 18(pause), 80% are under the age of 30. Any of those girls or women could end up pregnant and not be able to support or raise a child (pause). Rape victims can be minors and wouldn 't be mentally or physically prepared to care for a child (pause).
According to the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network, another person endures sexual assault every 98 seconds. This information may have been shocking ten years ago, but for many, this news is a basic fact of life. Sexual assault cases have continued to become more and more common as time goes on. Sexual assault can either be verbal, physical or visual. There are many women who are being forced into sex, beaten or perhaps abused in her lifetime by a person called a man. At some other times, the women are being assaulted by people whom they don’t know, but most frequently they are hurt or abused by people who are close to them. Women abuse occur in all cultures and races, it doesn’t have any boundaries. We have buried a lot of women, of which their death resulted from women abuse issue, some women today have anger and can’t even raise their children properly, they are angry with everyone and some can’t even face the world. Women abuse causes an awful emotional and physical pain; it intimidates the lives of women.
