Imagine walking in Times Square and seeing a flashing light, then you have a seizure. You can not stop your limbs from spasming; you have saliva building up in your mouth and it is causing you to be unable to breathe; your eyes are going to one side. This is what people with Epilepsy have the risk of happening daily. Epilepsy is a very dreadful disease to handle with no cure and having to spend a lot of time being treated. There are two main types of seizures, generalized or partial, that are characterized by four main symptoms. These symptoms are sensory, autonomic, motor, and psychic. A seizure is an electrical storm in brain cells. The two main groups of seizures are partial and generalized. partial seizures start in one part of the brain, while generalized start on both sides of the brain (Kiriakopoulos). There are lots of symptoms for Epilepsy that are put into four groups: Motor, Autonomic, Psychic, and Sensory. There are also a lot of triggers which cause seizures for people with Epilepsy. Some of those triggers are drugs, alcohol, diet, lack of sleep, flashing lights, and abruptly stopping medication. However, Epilepsy is not the only cause for seizures. Some other causes are brain tumors, trauma,strokes, or a brain infection. Each time someone has a seizure the chance of them having another goes up. When someone is having a seizure there are things to help save them. First, turn them on their side so the excess saliva doesn’t block oxygen (Spencer 37).
