Figure skating Has elements of ballet and dance to give the sport its grace. Many people from other countries train and compete in the olympics to show off their skills. Although it may not seem difficult, there are many things that olympians have to do to participate in this sport.
In figure skating for competition skaters perform freestyle movements of jumps, spins, lifts, and foot work in a graceful manner. The olympic rink has the length of 56-60m and the width of it is 26-30m. For scoring the skaters receive two mark for each performance a technical score and a program components score that are added together to form a composite score. Then you add the two together and the skater with the highest score wins. A total of five events can be performed single skating men's, single skating women's, ice dance, pair skating, and team event. In figure skating the current world record for men is Yuzuru Hanyu with a score of 330.43. He broke the world record in 2014-2017 he is a four time grand prix final champion. Figure skating is a sport that requires a lot of training and talent.

In the Olympics for figure skating the country with the most metals is the united states with 49 metals. In 1908 figure skating became the first winter sport to be added into the olympics. Women's figure skating is one of the most watched events in the winter olympics. In the 1930 olympics Sonja Hines won a gold metal. She trained thousands of young skaters before she sadly died in a plane crash in 1961.
