Hypnosis
What is hypnosis? Is it when you go in front of an audience and a man acts to make participants fall asleep, and then makes them act like monkeys, or do other silly activities? Truth is, there is there are many lies behind what most people believe hypnosis to be. Hypnosis is just an altered state of mind. During hypnosis people are said to have high concentration, or focus one thought or memory.
To begin with, hypnosis has an extremely long history behind it. Hypnosis dates back to ancient times, being used in ancient tribal rituals. During these timed the hypnotherapist was called a shaman. The first record of hypnosis was found in Egypt, around 1500 B.C. In Egypt they used hypnosis during religious ceremonies. Eventually, Greeks also started using hypnotism also, but they used it for healing purposes. In the 1840’s James Braid spread the idea of hypnosis more, so it began to be looked at positively by medical professionals. As hypnosis spread it started to be used to treat neurotic disorders by Sigmund Freud. Hypnosis began to fade after a while, and it wasn’t used for medical purposes anymore, but instead entertainment purposes.

One myth is that people go unconscious and have amnesia. Another myth is that the patient is under control of the hypnotist. This isn’t true because of the fact that you still have complete control of yourself. A widespread myth is that only the mentally weak can be hypnotized. This is false because hypnotism is just an altered state of mind so it can be done to anyone. Many people go to hypnotherapists because they want to recall lost memories, because most people don’t know that this is false. The final myth is that you have never been hypnotized, this is false for many reasons. One reason being that people enter a stage of hypnosis at least twice a day, this being possible after waking up, before falling asleep, watching TV or reading a good
