Most, if not all, people are terrified by sharks. Whenever someone thinks of sharks, they think of a Great White shark. This is because the great white is an apex predator of the ocean. The great white can grow to be twenty feet, which sounds big. Now imagine, a shark so fearsome and massive that it could consume multiple great whites. Sounds like a fictional nightmare? Wrong, the megalodon fits this description and might be alive today. Without Question, the megalodon is a very well adapted creature that was one of the mightiest animals in existence. This has become a huge debate with more and more people being involved in it everyday. This all started when YouTube videos of fake megalodons went viral. Some are more believable, such as one video that was recorded in either the Mariana Trench or Japan’s Suruga Bay (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_BdHX8tkCc). Many sources have said it was recorded in one location or the other, so the true location is unknown. This shark has similarities with a whale shark, which is about the same size. However if the shark were to have a white belly it could most definitly be fake, a new species, or megalodon. It is very difficult to tell but at one point in the video it seems that the shark has a white belly. At the same time, though, the shark rubbed against the sea floor of light dirt which could’ve made the illusion of the belly being white. A megalodon could still be alive today because government sources show that only 5% of the ocean has been explored by man (oceanservice.noaa.gov). If the ocean is 70% of the Earth, that means only about ⅓ of the Earth has actually been explored. Everytime someone actually takes a sample of the deep sea, a new species is discovered (usnews.com). That means the possibilities are almost endless. In science class, I have learned that species can adapt to survive their environment. This means that megalodon could’ve evolved over time to develop a trait that allows it to survive now. Also, the technology we have today hasn’t been around for millions of years. People haven’t explored the oceans too much in the past either. This means megalodon could be out there and we just didn’t have the technology to find
