Dupre Bethel University U.S. History 212 March 18, 2018 Abstract Inside this essay is information on President Truman and the Atomic Bombs that were used to destroy Hiroshima and Nagasaki, two major cities in Japan. There will be discussions on the way that Truman put together his plan. There will be information on how articulate he was on deciding where, and when to drop the bombs on these two Japanese cities. Hiroshima, Japan had an estimated death count of 150,000 people, while Nagasaki, Japan’s death count after the atomic bomb was lower, ranging around the 75,000 mark (assc.ucla.edu, 2007). This wound up taking away a large percentage of these two cities, especially since these were two major cities in Japan. However, the atomic bomb did not wipe out all of Japan. People also died in the years following from cancer, radioactivity, and things of that nature due to the bombing. An interesting fact, however, is that there was a memorandum written during the time of the war stating that there were no anticipated effects of radioactivity at ground level in Japan (nsarchive2.gwu.edu). Also, between 1945 and 1954, physicians examined newborn infants whose parents had lived through the atomic bombing of Japan. These doctors found that there were awful amounts of abnormalities caused by the parents being exposed to radioactivity while pregnant, or prior to becoming pregnant. “These abnormalities accounted for 445 of the 594 malformed infants” (rerf.jp, …show more content…

America then went on, under the power of President Truman, to attack Japan with two atomic bomb. These bombs were dropped on two of Japan’s largest cities, Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This then led to years and years of radioactivity, thousands upon thousands of lives lost, and multiple different birth defects and illnesses to spread across Japan. This was all done so that President Truman could make his point in that no one would threaten, or attack America without repercussions. He felt that this was the safest way, and that it would save the most American lives. He thought that it was the most effective way to turn back on
