Our campaign directly addresses the need of these sex trafficked girls to find safety from a powerful force, our law enforcement. The petition on change.org would inform the public not only about the issue of CSEC, but gain support in the need for the aid of our law enforcement. A fact sheet is concrete evidence in that this issue is prevalent, and should not be ignored. By writing a letter to the editor of the DFW Star-Telegram we hope to get support from the newspaper to spread awareness, and increase the knowledge and training of law enforcement. Many police officers go into the streets without any training on how to handle sex trafficking and commonly confuse it for prostitution. Leading it to too many cases where young girls are poorly mistreated from those whom they are suppose to “trust”. For example, Keisha, a thirteen year old who was arrested for the “act of prostitution”. In her case, police were undercover and with her pimp blocks away, she complied to their request for sex. However, after the officer arrested Keisha and the pimp, they began to verbally abuse the young girl by yelling at her and calling her dumb for having a pimp (Lloyd 135-136). Stories like Keisha’s makes us realize how poorly trained these officers might be, and how much they can affect a young girl’s life and future. Rachel Lloyd once claimed she and the rest who are “victims are seen less than everybody else; in the community, family, social workers, hospital staff and even the law enforcement”(Lloyd).
