Have you ever thought of what would happen if the Olympics were banished? You would be devastated. I probably would be devastated too! That is why I am on the side of us keeping the Olympics! You probably love sports, and do not want to see them go into their own boxes and stay there for the rest of eternity, or just become unknown to the world, and slowly die off. Just shut your eyes and think of a world without sports! It would be awful!! Ok, now think about how the world is right now with the Olympics. The two are different. There were 26 Olympic sports in 2016. Some examples are, gymnastics, swimming, tennis, soccer, basketball, baseball, martial arts, and track and field. That's just the summer Olympics. Every four years, they may add sports to the Olympic games, or they take away some sports. Many people can learn about different sports. Where else can you see so many sports in one place? The Olympics started two centuries ago in Athens, Greece. In Athens, they had sports like running, long jump, shot put, javelin, boxing, Pankration, equestrian events, and the pentathlon. Many of these events are still at the Olympics today. These sports are important because people care enough about them to repeat them up to today. Tradition is important to athletes and the people that watch them. Plus, the athletes are a very high level in their sport, meaning that they have stuck with it for a very long time. This shows that the athletes care about the sport and want to keep the sports tradition
