Do you know what hockey is? Do you wonder what icing is in hockey? Well wonder no more, because I’ve got your answer. Hockey is a tough sport. Players can get their teeth knocked out, and break a lot of bones. It’s rough and rugged too. Hockey allows body checking and fighting. In the next few paragraphs you’ll learn the key information to knowing and mastering the sport of hockey. As you might already know hockey is the national sport of Canada. It is a cold sport originally played on frozen ponds and lakes. According to UHL.COM hockey made its first debut in the USA in 1893. Goaltender Interference Penalty- When a player in the offensive zone prevents the goaltender from playing his position.
High-Sticking Penalty- When a player takes his stick and jabs the other players face or body. (Two minutes if no bleeding occurs and Four minutes if bleeding does occur.)
Holding Penalty- When a player impedes the progress of an opposing player by grabbing him with his hand or stick. (Two minute minor penalty.)
Hooking Penalty- When a player uses the blade of his stick to tug an opponent’s stick or jersey. (Two minute minor penalty.)
Interference Penalty – When a player impedes on another player that isn’t carrying the puck. (Two minute minor penalty.)
Major Penalty- Penalty occurs when a serious hit or offence is committed illegally. (Five minute penalty.)
Minor Penalty- A penalty consisting of Two minutes.
Misconduct Penalty- Ten minute penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct or other offences.
Penalty Shot- When a player gets tripped on a breakaway he gets a penalty shot.
