Some people dismiss them as snobbish and cold, while others view them as adorable and ridiculous; still others fear them. H. P. Lovecraft’s “The Cats of Ulthar” reflects the many feline roles in culture, past and present: mysterious creature, sacred entity, beloved companion, and fearsome predator. In the opening paragraph, the narrator looks with awe upon the cat purring by the fire.
On a normal day in ancient Egypt, an Egyptian could be found sometime during the day kneeling in front of a statue or altar, lighting incense and praying to their gods and goddesses.
