Have you ever wondered what it's like to be a model? What extreme measures do models have to go through to fit into clothes? How do people feel when they see these super skinny and gorgeous models? Well that's what I'm here to tell you. Modeling is an industry where men and women model clothes, promote brands, and are able to express themselves through photos. Modeling is very loved among people because you get to see your favorite celebrities model extravagant, expensive clothes and to show you that what you think makes you different is a good thing. Men and women in the industry are pushed beyond their limits to be extremely thin and pushing them that far can lead to anorexia nervosa and bulimia. Models are expected to be able to fit in the smallest size clothes possible and if they don't, they bring in someone who is thinner that can fit in the clothes. When that expectation is constantly enforced the eating disorders that models develop can lead to possible death. Multiple models have died from trying to fit these unrealistic and unattainable standards. Model Luisel Ramos collapsed and died from heart failure due to self induced starvation and a year later Ramos' sister, Eliana died from a heart attack due to malnutrition. Multiple models have died from malnutrition and self induced starvation because they are expected to be unhealthily thin and fit into everything that they expect you too. And if you're not thin enough you basically have no career in this industry because that's all this industry cares about. Writer for the New York Times Elizabeth Paton interviewed Cyril Brulé director of Viva Model Management Agency and he stated΅ This girl told me, ¨I've been walking in shows everyday here and this is the price I have to pay if I want to work¨- and she both wants and needs work¨. All you see when you open up a magazine is tall, skinny white women. These women are being put everywhere you look, especially for young girls to see. The young girls that are constantly exposed to these looks are being pressured to look like these conventionally attractive white women because that is the standard. The constant exposure to these unnatural women can cause teens, young women, to have body dissatisfaction or eating disorders. Body types have a very wide range of body types that need to be represented more throughout this industry.The lack of body types doesn't only affect young girls but men as well. Along with the modeling industry only putting in skinny women the same thing goes with men. Even though men aren't vocal with the issues that the industry causes they still occur. Men in the modeling industry are only shown as skinny men and not bulky or buff. And if they are bulky they are put in the plus size category, which can lead to body dysmorphia and eating disorders to get out of the plus size
