I. Introduction
A. Envision yourself hanging out with your family. All of the sudden one of your family member whimpers and collapses into the floor. You just stare as everybody else rush for help and tries to help that person out. As everything is happening so fast you freeze out, your nerves take over, and one of your family members says “She’s having a seizure”.
B. Your first thought is “What must I do?”
C. Should I call 911 or should I step back and let others deal with the current situation?
D. This happened to me with my cousin who suffers from epilepsy and had an unexpected seizure that day.

Let us go back into the moment where I did not know what to do and envision you getting alcohol or moving the person around to wake them up .Well, let me inform you-you are doing everything wrong and I will tell you why.
1. There are a few people of my own family that have epilepsy. When someone has epilepsy and has a seizure the first thing to do is to turn them to one side, do not try to take out the object them holding on and don’t put anything in their mouth because they can choke.
2. Most seizures last 5 minutes but if it does not call 911.

3. Epilepsy can take away the possibility of you be able to drive and have a set of time to not forget to take your medicine. The side effects of the medicine can have a toll on the person output.

4. According to Epilepsy Foundation, “Approximately 500,000 Americans receive medical care which successfully controls their seizures without further complication……. Approximately one million people experience inadequate relief from their seizures and/or treatment side effects. New medications with fewer side effects are desperately needed”.
