Good morning class,
I have developed a unique love for working dogs. I have always owned Rottweilers and am fascinated with the drive and intelligence they display. I first started looking into the history of the breed and that led me to all the various job functions they perform. Rottweilers are used by many European entities in various forms of service work. In following the path of uses for working dogs, I discovered Schutzhund and the Belgium Ring Sports. I love to teach others how to train their dogs.
In this training there are two forms of learning utilized. The individual that you are training is being taught by Observational Learning. They must have the techniques demonstrated for them. If they perform these techniques wrong

I let them chase the end of the whip around just as you would tease a cat with a mouse on a string. I do this while walking the puppy. This is the start of the game. If the animal has good genetic prey drive they will catch on very quickly. This game also helps to build and reinforce the prey drive they already have. Once the puppy is comfortable and well acclimated to this technique, I begin to crack the whip. This socializes the animal to very loud sounds and further develops their drive for the bite work that comes later. This is when I start using the next training tool, the slagger stick. A slagger stick is a bamboo stick that is split down the middle several times and taped at the end. When it’s shaken the split ends of the bamboo clatter together and make a rather loud noise. To introduce this properly, the puppy should be distracted with the end of the whip or their tug and the slagger should be rubbed all over its body. This teaches the puppy that they stick making the noise won’t hurt …show more content…
This is the word they need to associate with releasing the bite. Once the puppy has a good bite on the end of the whip, get down on the ground and very gently pry open their mouth while giving the “out” command. Immediately follow this up with large amounts of the type of praise the puppy has shown affinity for. This gentle form of training is continued throughout the puppy training. If you can teach a dog to bit, you should also be able to teach them to not bite. You need to have patience and caring in order for this to work. The puppy must know that it can trust you. This is imperative for when the puppy becomes a dog and starts their real sport training at approximately the age of two. I would ensure the individual I am training understands the importance of good attention by letting them spend time with dogs that have been poorly socialized or trained wrong. I would continue by having them perform all these techniques in concert with their own puppy, while I am there individually to make spot
