From a plane crash to a possible beast on the island they’ve landed on, with there normal life of civility slowly being challenged by there savage ways, In the Novel Lord of the Flies by, William Golding. Will the boys be able to escape the island or become the savage beast they all feared to encounter. One Theme explored in this novel is how they were able to kill a sow, and behead it as well as enjoyingly brutally killing it, of which after they put the head onto a stick. Which shows that, regardless of who they are or their past, they are able to create such brutal acts on each other or such an innocent animal for fun. It showed how brutality could triumph over compassion. Even though they had mistaken for the “beast” and attacking it to defend themselves and kill said “beast”. After the death of Simon and them realizing it wasn’t truly the “beast” they felt no remorse and left the body on the beach. Which the novel says, “ His body is swept out to the ocean after the dead pilot’s: Surrounded by a fringe of inquisitive bright creatures, itself a silver shape beneath the steadfast constellations, Simon’s dead body moved out toward the open sea ” (pg. 140.) Simon’s character was known as a wise, helpful, kind, and intelligent person which his death the last amounts of good and civility leaving the island, only remaining with Piggy’s well being.
