The Standards for Initial Certification program is the outline we intend to master in our courses and field experiences. I believe the standards assist future and current teachers be successful, and positive role models. As I further my education implementing the University of Clear Lake (UHCL) standards will help me grow as a future educator and I know I can make a positive difference in students’ lives.
The first UHCL School of Education Standard focuses on the teacher’s content knowledge and skills. The educator must have a general understanding with principles and key issues he or she will be teaching. Effective teachers will use appropriate content concepts for each student. Educators should have a high level of professional responsibility and ethics to abide by to in order to meet this standard. To be an effective educator, he or she needs to create a collaborative learning environment. When educators provide a collaborative learning environment students are actively engaged, diversity is implemented, and all contributions are valued. Educators need to take into account students’ abilities and students’ strengths and weaknesses as well as their interest levels. Not all students learn the same so teachers need to consider students’ learning styles when designing lessons. As a future educator, I will ensure a safe and nurturing environment by representing diversity of my students to enhance and enrich the learning of all. The curriculum teachers must create has to meet 3 standards held by the district, state, and the nation. The use of technology and outside resources are used in planning the curriculum. Teachers use outside sources to help the students understand what they are learning. The use of technology in the classroom helps the students to keep up-to-date on how the education system is heading. The curriculum needs to have a variety of learning styles because each student is diverse and learns things different. Teachers’ need to keep in mind of auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learners. The teachers must create a curriculum that keeps the students engaged in their learning. The more involved the students are in their learning the better their education will be. The teachers needs to observe how the students learn best. Educators also need to know if the student has a learning disability as a result the curriculum can be tailored for that student. It is important for teachers to keep the student and parents or guardians up-to-date on how the student is doing in the classroom. If the students and parents are left out there would be no successful education and learning. As a future educator, I will always plan my lessons according to my students’
